Abstract:Based on Vitruvius' "De Architectura libri decem" about proportions of the Greek theatre supplemented with the size data from Epidaurus, we reconstruct the impulse response and process the recordings of ancient and modern music. All theatres preserved till today, had sound deficiencies which Vitruvius recommended to solve using bronze vases. The wooden theatres didn’t have these deficiencies so simulating their impulse response gives us the effect intended by the old masters. The simulated impulse response can be used for filtering music signal to achieve this effect.
